Photographic silver halide materials contain in the emulsion or a layer adjacent thereto 11 to 50 mg/mole silver halide of a piazine containing a 1, 4-pyrazine ring to which two 6-membered carbocyclic rings are fused symmetrically which carbocyclic rings may be substituted or fused with further carbocyclic rings, the piazine being in the free or quaternized form, as anti-foggant to prevent fog caused by hardening agents and contaminants in polyester film base (1 - 15 mils thick). Specified substituents on the fused carbocyclic rings are hydroxy, amino, acetoxy alkyl and amido groups and specified substituents on the pyrazine nitrogen atoms are alkyl, benzyl, phenyl and hydroxyalkyl groups. The layers of the material may contain hardening agents e.g. oxystarch, muchloric acid, formaldehyde, aziridines, derivatives of dioxane, aliphatic, dialdehydes which may contain alkyl or alkoxy groups on the carbon chain separating the aldehyde groups and aldehyde bisulphite addition compounds. |
