Commercial butene gave 64.9% butadiene when oxidized at 394 DEG C over a Sn, Sb and Cr oxides catalyst. Other catalysts may be Sn, Sb and Cu and Sn, Sb, Mn. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 931,940.ALSO:Straight oxidation or ammoxidation of propylene or isobutene is effected in the presence of a catalyst comprising Sb and Sn oxides together with Cu and/or Cr and/or Mn oxides. Numerous examples are given in which various proportions of propylene or isobutene, air, steam (and if desired ammonia) are passed over a bed of catalyst at ca. 490 DEG C. to yield either acrolein and acrylonitrile or methacrolein and methacrylonitrile. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 931,940.ALSO:Oxidation catalysts comprise Sb and Sn oxides together with Cu and/or Cr and/or Mn oxides. The catalysts may be supported on pumice, SiO2, SiC or TiO2. Specific proportions of ingredients, a variety of preparative methods and methods of heat treatment are described. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 931,940. |
