Each order of a register has a transfer pawl with two degrees of freedom, one of which permits two discrete positions relative to the register shaft, one of these positions coupling the higher order pinion to the shaft. The pawl 45 normally rides on the inner edge of a ring secured to the associated pinion, Fig. 7. If the pinion passes from 9 to 0, or vice versa for subtraction, pawl 45 is depressed to intermediate position by cam 21D. Subsequently the shaft 23 is turned through 36 degrees so that cam 21E depresses pawl 45 fully. A slide 41, Fig. 2, then moves to the left to rock any displaced pawls 45 so as to engage the pinion of next higher order, restoration of the shaft 23 then effecting transfer. If any pinion is standing at 9 (or 0 for a subtractive operation) then pawl 45 is depressed to intermediate position by 21D and a projection 45B is aligned with an interposer 47. If transfer is effected to this pinion then the interposer 47 rocks this pawl 45 also to effect transfer to the next denomination. Carry from the highest denomination to the lowest via slide 51 provides for the fugitive one. |
