[Also in Division B6] An embossed laminated towelling comprises webs 15, 23, each provided with embossments 17, 25 forming projections, bonded by adhesive applied to at least some of the projections 17. Projections 25 may or may not have the same height as projections 17. 10-200 projections, of height 0À01-0À05 inch, can be provided per square inch. The laminate is made by passing webs 15, 23 around platen rolls 11, 14 and embossing rolls 12, 13; adhesive is applied to web 15 from trough 19 by rolls 20-22. Roll 22 may be patterned so that only some of the projections 17 are coated with adhesive. The superposed webs are pressed together by roll 12 and roll 27 which may be rubber-covered (in which case it need not be driven) and may have a different diameter from roll 12. The adhesive may be coloured for use with translucent or transparent webs. |
