The movable electrode of a liquid resistor is operated through gearing 5, 6 rotating a threaded member 7 engaged with a threaded rod 3 prevented from rotating by a member 8 sliding in a square section tube 2. The whole mechanism is oil filled. The shaft 4 is driven by hand or by an electric motor operating through a flexible coupling, Fig. 2, not shown. The resistor may be short circuited, at the end of the travel of the movable electrode, by a contact stud 17, connected to that electrode, engaging an oil-immersed female contact 18 connected to the fixed electrode. The stud 17 may be operated through a spring to give a snap action. |
