METHOD FOR INCREASING MOLECULAR WEIGHT OF SYNDIOTACTIC POLYPROPYLENE

PURPOSE:To readily increase the mol.wt. of polypropylene having a substantially syndiotactic configuration with a reduced amount of radiations. CONSTITUTION:A method for increasing the mol.wt. of polypropylene having a substantially syndiotactic configuration by the irradiation of radiations in the absence of oxygen. The polypropylene is preferably heated after the irradiation of the radiations. The polypropylene having the substantially syndiotactic configuration can be irradiated with the radiations in the melted state. The polypropylene having the substantially syndiotactic configuration is preferably a polypropylene in which a diffraction line is not observed in a spacing of lattice planes of approximately 7.1Angstrom by X-ray diffraction method.
