Petroleum hydroforming process with catalytic pretreatment. In order to de-sulphurise the raw material and to convert the lower-octane paraffin content to material of higher anti-knock value or to lower boiling fractions which are easily removed. The charge is pre-treated under heat and pressure in presence of hydrogen, and in contact with a catalyst (C) and a crystalline aluminium silicate zeolite (B) containing a Group IIB metal. (B) has uniform pores of less than 6 angstroms and pref. has at least 25% of its cation content replaced by a Group IIB metal, esp. Zn. It is pref. an A-type zeolite with a crystal structure similar to erionite, and is activated by contacting with a S-cpd. (C) is pref. a hydrogenating catalyst from Group VB, VIB, VIIB or VIII, esp. a metal of the Pt. group such as Pd. After pretreatment at least part of the product is subjected to the normal hydro-forming process.
|
