PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic paper feeder for an image scanner or a printer device capable of securely reducing the double feed of carrying a plurality of sheets into a device body by securely separating overlapped sheets one by one regardless of the kind or characteristics of the sheets in when the sheets are carried into the device body in a state that a plurality of them are overlapped on each other. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a carrying belt to carry the sheets into the device body for image reading or printing by a printer, and a separation roller to separate overlapped sheets which are carried facing the carrying belt. An installation position of the separation roller is set in such a way that the center of the separation roller is deflected from the center of a downstream side pulley for the carrying belt to press the downstream side pulley for the carrying belt through the carrying belt.
