A gauze electrode 7 for a vidicon camera tube is made by electro-deposition, then etched to give it a light transmission factor of more than 50%, mounted between metal frames 4, 5 and secured thereto by diffusion, at a temperature between 60% and 70% of the melting temperature of the gauze material in ‹ C. in a reducing atmosphere, the width of the material of each frame being less than 15% of the outside dimension of the frame. The gauze is made of copper and the frames are of a coppernickel alloy, the diffusion process being performed at 650‹-758‹ C. for 12 minutes with the frames held against each other with a light force. The gauze shape may be circular or rectangular and the diffusion operation is performed at a comparatively low temperature to avoid excessive shrinkage of the etched gauze. |
