A film reader having inter-changeable gate assemblies adapted for roll-film or for sheet-film, has in addition a gate supporting platform vertically movable with respect to the optical axis. The platform 27, Fig.2, is supported for vertical sliding movement by channel members 29, 31 engaging fixed plastic tongue members 32, 33 and the platform being cantilevered forward, the latter members have guide lugs (38, 39) and resilient pads (40, 41) Fig.4 (not shown) to reduce friction. The weight of the platform is balanced by a coiled spring (58) so that the frictional contact in the channels holds the platform 27 at any vertical adjustment established by winding lever (53). The roll-film gate 59, shown mounted, comprises a base flange 62 with a downwardly extending member 63, Fig.3, and transparent pressure plates 68, 77 between which film 22 is fed. Flange 62 is located correctly on platform 27 by upward projecting pins 103 engaging corresponding holes in flange 62 and is resiliently mounted by members 93, 94. The mounting frame 78 for the rear pressure plate 77 is pivotable about its lower end where pin 81 attaches it to member 63. A solenoid 125 is provided so that the pressure plates may be separated when the film is in motion. The sheet film gate, Fig.12, comprises a pocket member 141 with front and rear plate members 142, 143 adapted to receive an envelope 165 comprising transparent plates 166, 167 hinged together along their lower edge and adapted to receive a film sheet. Pocket member 141 is located on base 27, as above, by pins 103 engaging holes 159 and is similarly mounted. Any desired frame on the film sheet may be positioned in the viewing gate by suitably positioning envelope 165 in pocket 141 for which purpose indexing marks 174, 175 are provided. |
