1284304 Substituted hydrazine derivatives and agents containing them for retarding the growth of plants BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 12 Nov 1969 [20 Nov 1968] 55405/69 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula where R denotes a (C 1-5 ) aliphatic radical which is attached by means of a carbon atom, R1 denotes a hydrogen atom, R2 denotes a substituted or unsubstituted (C 2-4 ) alkenyl radical, or a substituted or unsubstituted benzyl radical or -CO-R3, where R3 denotes hydrogen, or a pyridyl or a carbocyclic radical or a saturated or olefinically unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical which is substituted by a cyano, chloro, methoxy, ethoxy or acetoxy group, or R1 and R2 together denote = CR4R5, where R4 denotes an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical or a monocyclic aryl radical, and R5 denotes hydrogen or may independently denote any of the radicals denoted by R4, and n = 1 and X# denotes an anion; or, in the case where R2 denotes the radical -COR3, n may be zero and X# then denotes a unit negative charge on the nitrogen atom to which R2 is attached. These compounds may be obtained by alkylating an N,N,N1-trisubstituted hydrazine derivative; by reaction of an N,N,N-trisubstituted hydrazinium salt with an aldehyde, ketone, or an ester or their amide forming acid derivatives; by quaternization of a hydrazone; or by interconversion of an inner nitrogen ylide and the corresponding hydrazinium amide salt. Many compounds are specified in the examples. The invention also comprises a plant growth retarding composition which contains a compound according to the invention together with a solid or liquid carrier.
