The level of a fluent material 15, Fig. 1, in a container 13 is determined by an elongated resistive transducer 11 comprising an electrically resistive tape 33, Fig. 2, wound over a conductive base 31 but insulated and spaced therefrom in such a way that the fluent contents of the container force the tape 33 against the base 31 to short-circuit part of the resistance of the tape. The residual resistance is indicative of the level of the material and is measured by the current in a series circuit. Details of the coverings over the transducer are given. |
