A control rod actuator for nuclear reactors, esp. liquid metal cooled which formes part of a group fixed to a mount plate which in turn is rigidly fixed to the rotary cover of the reactor. The mounting plate has plug and socket connections for current and gas supplies to the clutch and rapid shut off mechanisms and for the control leads. The motor assembly is mounted within an outer housing contg. further plug and socket connections and anchoring devices to prevent the motor casing turning on its bearings when the motor is energised.
