PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium with excellent running performance, high density and high resolution by including ferromagnetic powder having a large coercive magnetic force to a magnetic substance layer with high packing factor and high dispersibility. CONSTITUTION:In a magnetic recording medium having a magnetic layer on a support base, ferromagnetic powder being any of Co-coated iron oxide magnetic powder and metallic magnetic powder, having <=1.0mu particle size, an axial ratio 1-5, and rod or fusiform or similar shape is included so as to attain the purpose. ''Fusiform or similar shape'' means that all images observed by a transmission type electron microscope are images as shown in the figure. The magnetic layer of the magnetic recording medium is formed by kneading and dispersing the ferromagnetic powder into a solvent together with a binder as a magnetic print and coating the said paint onto the support base. In forming the magnetic paint, a dispersing agent, a lubricant, a polishing agent, an antistatic agent or the like can be added as required. |
