TREATMENT OF WASTE WATER CONTAINING SULFUR COMPOUND

PURPOSE:To stably treat waste water containing a sulfur compound and to reduce the consumption amount of utility, by adding mineral acid and hydrogen peroxide to said waste water to treat the same at definite pH and temp. CONSTITUTION:Waste water 1 containing COD components (mainly, dithionic acid ion S2O6<2->) is passed through an ion exchange tower 2 packed with a medium basic or weak basic type anion exchange resin and the dithionic acid ion S2O6<2-> is removed by adsorption to obtain treated water 3. In the next step, sulfuric acid 5 and hydrogen peroxide 23 are preliminarily added to a regeneration conc. waste solution desorbed by regenerating the ion exchange resin and the resulting solution is heated to 100 deg.C by steam 15 in a hermetically closed type decomposition tank 14 to decompose the dithionic acid ion S2O6<2->. Subsequently, thermally decomposed treated water is recovered in a sulfuric acid storage tank 22 and used as mineral acid for the regenerative desorption of the ion exchange resin or the substitution liquid of the ion exchange resin after desorption.
