A device (10) for a vehicle (12) to signal braking, decelerating, and turning. The device has two bodies (14) mounted near the top of the back or the highest point adjacent the sides of the vehicle. Each body has a base (16) and a cover (18) with translucent lenses (28, 28', 28'', 30). Light sources (40) and reflectors (42) are disposed on the base. Lighting one or more red lenses indicates braking while lighting a yellow or red arrow shaped lens and a side lens (30) indicates intended turning. The light is directed downwardly by a downward tilt to the cover or by directional configurations (29) on the lenses. The device can be powered from the vehicle's electrical system or from a separate backup battery (66) that can be trickle charged (68) as the vehicle is operating. A deceleration sensor having a piezoelectric crystal (70) also operates the braking signal. An auxiliary switch (52) activates the turn indicators to operate in an intermittent emergency mode.
