[Also in Division C1] An additive for liquid fuels comprises a colloidal dispersion of a sulphate, halide or phosphate of an alkaline earth metal or of magnesium, said colloid having an average particle size of less than 0À2 microns diameter. The colloidal dispersion is prepared in a mineral lubricating oil or fuel and is stabilized with phosphosulphurized hydrocarbons, amines, alkyl phenols or bisphenols introduced during the preparation (see Division C1). The dispersion is added as a concentrate to hydrocarbon fuels, such as light fuel oils and gas oils for diesel engines, heavy oils for furnaces and kerosene diesel fuels and residual fuels, in amounts equivalent to 0À001 to 10 wt. per cent of metal based upon the fuel to impart anti-smoking properties. |
