PURPOSE: To improve the surface characteristics of a slab by forming a thermally sprayed metallic Ni film having a prescribed thickness on the inside wall surface of a casting mold and a thermally sprayed ceramic film consisting of ZrO2 and Al2 O3 and having a prescribed thickness on the upper layer thereof. CONSTITUTION: The thermally sprayed metallic Ni film having a thickness of 10 to 100μm is formed as a first layer on the surface of a Cu or Cu alloy plate 1 which is the base material for the casting mold for continuous casting. The thermally sprayed ceramic film 3 consisting of 10 to 40 mass % ZrO2 and the balance Al2 O3 , and having a thickness of 50 to 300μm is formed as a second layer thereon. The thermally sprayed ceramic film 3 has a low thermal conductivity and the heat flow flux flowing from the slab to the casting mold is diminished. The δ/γ transformation is completed and thermal stresses are made uniform by the warmer cooling of the cooling conditions for the casting mold, by which the surface crack of the slab is suppressed and the surface quality is improved. Further, the wear resistance and thermal impact resistance of the casting mold walls are improved. |
