<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make compact a fixing device designed such that a nip release lever is turned interlocking with the opening/closing of a jam access cover. <P>SOLUTION: The fixing device unit 4 is structured such that when the jam access cover 7 is opened, the front of an engagement part 70a of the cover 7 comes into contact with the back of the nip release lever 50 in a nip position, thereby allowing the nip release lever 50 to move in a cover opening/closing direction from the nip position to a nip release position. The fixing device unit 4 is further structured such that in the case where the nip release lever 50 is in the nip position when the jam access cover 7 is closed, the nip release lever 50 is displaced to a retracting position from the nip position while the back of the engagement part 70a is in contact with the front of the cover of the nip release lever 50, thereby allowing the engagement part 70a to move apart. In the fixing device unit 4, the nip position and the retracting position are parallel to each other in a sidewise direction in relation to the cover opening/closing direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
