The portable stand has a base plate to make it free-standing. A framework comprising at least two vertical rods rises from the base plate. The upper ends of the rods are bridged by a top plate between the base plate and the top plate the rods are bridged by a horizontal platform. The instrument fits removably inside a flexible, elastically compressible, open ended to tube. The tube has an exterior, radial flange near one end by which the tube can be suspended freely by the edge of a hole through the platform. The plug for the bottom of the tube has an outer end cavity which clips lightly on to a stud on the base well clear of the suspended tube. The plug for the upper end of the tube has an axial through passage. The instrument fits tightly into the inner end of the passage while the outer end of the passage clips onto a stud on the underside of the top plate. In this way the instrument is suspended coaxially above but clear of the open-ended tube. This is a stand on which a small surgical instrument, esp. one for dental surgery, can be supported together with but well clear of its container. The stand holds these parts during sterilisation, partic. sterilisation by dry chemical vapour or ultrasonic/ultraviolet treatment. The treatment can effectively reach all areas to be sterilised. Subsequent assembly of the instrument into the tube and end-plugging the tube are achieved aseptically. |
