PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an end face reflection type surface acoustic wave device in which adverse effect of pyroelectric charges can be suppressed, when the device is exposed to abrupt temperature variation without requiring extra manufacturing processes. SOLUTION: A plurality of IDTs 6-9 are formed on a piezoelectric substrate 5, and an end face reflection type surface acoustic wave element 3 having end faces 5c and 5d for reflecting surface wave is contained in a package 2. On one major surface 5a of the piezoelectric substrate 5, first and second pyroelectric charge cancel electrodes 21 and 22 are formed in the vicinity of the end edge defined by the side faces 5e and 5f and the major surface 5a. The first and second pyroelectric charge cancel electrodes 21 and 22 are electrically connected, respectively, with the package side electrodes 4e and 4f which are interconnected electrically in the package of the surface acoustic wave device 1.
