1,235,631. Oligomerizing ethylene. BP CHEMICALS Ltd. 25 Feb., 1970 [19 May, 1969], No. 25420/69. Heading C5E. Ethylene is oligomerized at - 50‹ to + 50‹ C. and 0-100 p.s.i.g. in the presence of an inert liquid diluent and a catalyst comprising (a) a compound of a Group IV, V or VI transition metal, and (b) an organometallic compound of a Group II metal. Suitable diluents are toluene, tetrahydrofuran and dialkyl ethers. Suitable catalysts components are (a) alkoxides, betadiketonates and carboxylates, particularly of titanium, e.g. tetra-(n-butoxy) titanium; and (b) C 2-6 alkyls of Mg and Zn, e.g. di-(n-propyl)- magnesium. In the example the product comprises a mixture of butene-1, hexenes and octenes. |
