The device has an impact wall(13) curved in the shape of an arc and is co-axial with the fan impeller(11). The inlet opening has a cross section which tapers with increasing distance from the impeller, and is trapezoidal in shape. The impact wall has a leading edge lying in the direction of flow in front of the inlet opening, and in order to reduce additional noises is the leading edge is bevelled at right angles to the direction of flow.
