The holder, for mounting a semiconductor diode (esp. a varactor diode) into a coaxial line or waveguide, has one end of the diode (6, 15) seated in a hole in the end of the coaxial cable's inner conductor (4') (outer conductor 4"). The second end (6) of the diode sits inside a ceramic sleeve (8) extending into the thickened wall (2) of the waveguide (5). A metal band (9) connects the diode's end contact (7) to a contact disc (16). The contact disc is pressed towards the diode by a screw (1) screwing into the outer face of the thickened wall. The second end (6) on the diode forms an almost pure capacitance (Cz) with the thickened wall of the guide. The magnitude of this capacitance is determined by the length (L). The capacitance and metal band's inductance form a resonant circuit. |
