An automatic lathe comprising a number of work-spindles mounted in a turret is characterized by the provision of a number of clamps disposed parallel to the machine axis, each clamp having a laterally projecting part coming over a part secured to or on the turret and each secured to a piston in an hydraulic cylinder, the clamps being operated by the supply of pressure fluid to the cylinders and freed by spring- pressure when the hydraulic pressure is released. The turret a has a number of lipped parts i, secured in a skirt-portion j, which are engaged by the lateral projections h of a number of clamping-members f. The latter extend into hydraulic cylinders m secured to the machine bed, and clamping is effected hydraulically at the end of an indexing movement. The controlvalve for this is interlocked with the indexing mechanism to ensure that the pressure is released before indexing takes place, the clamps being lifted by springs q. |
