PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method manufacturing 9-cyano xanthene which is an extremely important compound as an intermediate product of propantheline acid bromide used as a digestive medicine widely from xanthone by a single stage reaction with a high yield and a high selectivity without using dangerous chemical reagents.SOLUTION: With a high yield and a high selectivity, 9-cyano xanthene is manufactured by contacting xanthone and sulfonyl methyl isocyanide derivative in organic solvent such as alcohol of a carbon number 1-4 and/or ether of a carbon number 2-8 under a presence of base such as alkali metal alkoxide and/or diazabicyclo compound.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
