PURPOSE:To allow visual observation of thawing status from outside a thawing compartment, avoid uneven thawing and finish thawing within a short time period by a method wherein power supply to a far infrared ray heater and a heater and operation of a cooling fan are continued during thawing operation, the thawing compartment is kept in the same temperature range as that of a low temperature compartment while thawing operation is not carried out and a lighting is turned off after the lighting is lit for a specified time period. CONSTITUTION:Far infrared rays are radiated to food to be thawed from above and sides directly by a far infrared ray heater 34 and indirectly by a reflection panel 39, and the food absorbs heat transmitted from a heater 42 on the bottom. Simultaneously, during sawing operation, cold air is uniformly blown to the food to be thawed through a number of air blow holes formed on the reflection panel 39 to restrain the surface temperature of the food from rising. After thawing is completed, by the temperature control action of a damper thermostat 20, the food temperature is automatically kept in the same temperature range as that of a low temperature compartment 14 in which the thawing compartment is located, that is, the food temperature is kept within a temperature range between freezing and refrigerating temperatures. A window frame 57 is provided on a door in front of the thawing compartment 15, and the thawing status can be seen from outside a refrigerator through the window frame 15 with a lighting 40a turned on. |
