PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new composition for treating hair, and to provide a new hair cosmetic for damaged hair. SOLUTION: The present invention provides a composition for treating hair, containing poly-γ-L-glutamic acid or its salt, and a hair cosmetic for damaged hair. The composition for treating the hair, containing the poly-γ-L-glutamic acid or its salt, and the hair cosmetic for the damaged hair in the present invention, each has an excellent hair strength-improving effect and a hair frictional force-improving effect, can impart tension, body, and the like to the damaged hair, can prevent or improve broken hair, split hair, and the like, can improve the combability and touch of hair, and can further simultaneously exhibit various effective properties such as the conventional moisture-retaining action of the poly-γ-L-glutamic acid or its salt, an effect for preventing or improving the formation of dandruff on the basis of the moisture-retaining action, an effect for preventing stiffness and creakiness, and a suitable residual property on hair.
