1,235,597. Carrying handle for batteries. SEMPERT A.G. 23 Sept., 1969 [24 Sept., 1968; 4 Aug., 1969], No. 46696/69. Heading H1B. A carrying handle 5 for an electrical storage battery comprises two parallel arms 6 and 7 with inwardly bent ends 8, 9 having a length corresponding to the width of the bores in the rim of the accumulator through which the ends are passed from the top. Securing members 10 with a bent lower end portion are inserted into the bores from the bottom to fill the rest of the bores and the bent ends of the handle abut against the outer surfaces of the bent ends of the securing members when the handle is in the carrying position. In the embodiment shown the bent ends of securing member 10 abut against the lower face of the rim. Advantageously, the lower part of the bore has a widened part to accommodate the bent portion of the securing member. The member 10, which may be of synthetic resin material, may be stuck to the rim or held thereon by making at least one wall of the bore and/or widened part of an inclined or profiled form. In another embodiment which enables the handle to be pulled into a horizontal position, the widened part of the bore has a depth equal to at least twice the thickness of the bent handle ends and accommodate said end, and each bore is open towards the outer side of the rim over a part of its length extending from the top of the rim to the underside of the bent end when the handle is in the carrying position. |
