A quick release and fastening panel assembly includes a panel that covers a structural opening and is securely fastened to the structure surrounding the opening by a release and locking assembly. The release and locking assembly includes an actuator screw that when rotated by a tool, causes a driver element to move four actuating arms that are pivotally connected to the driver element and to respective locking mechanisms located at each edge of the panel. This movement of the actuating arms causes a pair of locking tongs in each of the locking mechanisms to engage opposing channel receptacles that are located along the edges of the panel and along the edges of the structural opening. When the locking tongs are locked in position, any loads from the structure are transmitted through the locking tongs to the panel. |
