PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust the sensitivity of an imaging element with photosensitive layers (photoelectric conversion layers) laminated on a substrate. SOLUTION: The imaging element includes: the substrate 30; the photosensitive layers 43 (47, 51) laminated on the upper layer of the substrate 30 and sandwiched between pixel electrode layers 41 (46, 50) and counter electrode layers 44 (48, 52); signal read means (34, 35) formed on the substrate 30 and for reading signals corresponding to photoelectric charges produced by light made incident to the photosensitive layers 43 (47, 51); and a pulse voltage application means for applying a sensitivity variable voltage between the pixel electrode layers and the the counter electrode layers for the sensitivity adjustment by changing the time width of a pulse voltage, and adjusting the pulse width of the pulse voltage applied between the pixel electrode layers and the the counter electrode layers executes sensitivity control for each photosensitive layer.
