1535848 Treating aqueous effluent BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 28 March 1977 [8 April 1976] 14294/76 Heading B1D Water contaminated with oil and solids is divided in gravity separator 22 into an aqueous fraction 23, wet oil 24 and wet oily sludge 31, the wet oil 24 is heated in tank 28 and mixed with the sludge from line 32, the mixture is pumped into a candle, leaf or plate filter 33 to remove the solids and the filtrate is separated by settling in tank 35. Separated water may be recycled from tanks 28, 35 to separator 22, and oil is discharged at 36. Periodically the flow to the filter is suspended, residual liquid is forced therethrough in the filtering direction by hot water, steam or solvent and the resulting oil-free filter cake may be dried by air. |
