PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for a metal strip capable of surely controlling the pass line, warpage, etc., of the metal strip by the bare essentials of electromagnets without installing a number of the electromagnets over a range wider than the maximum width of the metal strip passed through both the front and rear sides of the metal strip. SOLUTION: The controller has a first metal strip control means 10 which has three sets of electromagnet units 4 consisting of a pair of the electromagnets 2c and 2d disposed to face each other across the metal strip 1 and a sensor 3a for measuring the displacement in the out-of-plane direction displacement of the metal strip 1, are lined up with these electromagnets in the width direction with a range narrower than the minimum width W<SB>min</SB>of the metal strip 1, and controls the at least pass line of the metal strip 1 without contact by controlling the outputs of the three sets of the electromagnet units 4 based on the information of the sensor 3a and a second metal strip control means 20 which has a plurality of the electromagnets 2c and 2d lined up in the width direction within the range narrower than the maximum width W<SB>max</SB>wider than the minimum width W<SB>min</SB>of the metal strip 1 and corrects at least the warpage of the metal strip 1 by controlling the outputs of the electromagnets.
