PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame retardant high strength coated optical fiber capable of satisfying flame retardancy, fine diameter, and high strength, and improving terminal processing workability. SOLUTION: Tension members (5, 5) constituted of two high tensile strength fibers are vertically attached to the both sides of an optical fiber (4) constituted by successively forming primary coating (2) and secondary coating (3) made of ultraviolet hardening resin at the outer periphery of an optical fiber (1), and then primary end batch coating (6) made of ultraviolet hardening resin is formed at the outer periphery of those tension members, and secondary end batch coating (7) made of a flame retardant material is formed at the outer periphery so that a flame retardant high strength coated optical fiber (10) can be constituted.
