摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a properly stratified mixture by avoiding an inbalance between fuel injection and tumbling flow resulting from the dispersion of the penetration force of the fuel injection from an injector 18 when the tumblning flow T flowing to the injector 18 is generated in a cylinder combustion chamber 6 during stratified charge combustion of an engine 1, a fuel reversing to the tumbling flow T is injected with proper penetration force and a combustible mixture staying near an electrode of an ignition plug 16 is ignited right at an ignition timing for the cylinder. SOLUTION: During idling the engine 1, a fuel injection timing for the injector 18 is corrected to an advance side while gradually reducing the pressure of fuel injection from the injector 18 from a basic target combustion pressure to a set lower limit value so that the change rate of a crank angle speed is made smaller than a preset criterion value in the meantime. If the change rate of the crank angle speed is made smaller than the criterion value by the correction, then the fuel injection timing is corrected to a lag side while gradually increasing the combustion pressure to a set upper limit value so that the change rate of the crank angle speed is made smaller.
