<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate a gear ratio of a loaded cartridge by the measurement of the rotation period of an agitating bar 3 and inhibits printing with a cartridge other than one which has a predetermined number of revolutions. <P>SOLUTION: A photo-sensor (rotation period detecting part) 7 detects the rotation period of the agitating bar 3. A CPU (cartridge discriminating part) 21 compares the detected rotation period and a predetermined rotation period.
