PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery capable of suppressing the drop in discharging capacity caused by short-circuiting on a shelf. SOLUTION: This alkaline storage battery comprises a positive electrode plate using an active material mainly composed of nickel hydroxide covered with cobalt hydroxide on the surface, and a negative electrode plate, a separater alkaline electrolyte. A ratio of the nickel hydroxide used for the positive electrode plate to cobalt compound and/or metal cobalt and metal nickel is a<=8, b<=8, 2<=a+b<=12 where the cobalt compound and/or the metal cobalt is (a) pts.wt. and the metal nickel is (b) pts.wt. After the injection of the electrolyte, an initial charging is carried out after the battery is left for 24-120 hours at 15-50 deg.C. |
