The cooling system for a Diesel engine includes a motor driven fan (10) providing forced cooling for a radiator (11,12,13) which lies in the cooling or lubrication fluid circuit of the engine. The fan is driven by a steam turbine (9) which uses the thermal energy derived from the exhaust gas of the engine. The fan drive system includes a pump (8) providing the fluid to drive the turbine (9), and a heat exchanger (3) through which the driving fluid and the exhaust gases pass, in order to convert the fluid into steam. A condensor (11) converts the driving fluid back into its liquid state, under the cooling action of a fan.
