PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly safe prepaid card system which can instantaneously inform to a host device such as a settlement center of the existence of amount information which is not transmitted and to provide a reader and a non- transmitted information notice method. SOLUTION: A control part 23 of the reader 11 updates amount information of the prepaid card installed in a card read part 21, in accordance with the use request of the prepaid card and stores used amount information in a storage part 27. At that time, the control part 23 lights a display lamp 25 through a light-emitting control part 26. The control part 23 transmits amount information stored in the storage part 27 to the settlement center from a communication control part 29. At that time, the control part 23 puts out the display lamp 25. When the reader 11 cannot be communicated due to a fault, a maintenance person decides the existence of amount information which is not transmitted when the display lamp 25 is lighted and decides that the amount information which is not transmitted does not exist, when the display lamp 25 is turned off.
