PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change the shape of a laser beam without any break of presentation by providing a laser pointer having a beam generating means which generates a beam corresponding to a beam shape switching signal and an interface means which transmits the beam shape switching signal to the beam forming means. SOLUTION: The laser pointer receives the pattern number of the beam shape from a personal computer by a beam shape switching signal receiving circuit 11 and informs a beam shape switching circuit 12 of it. At this time, a beam shaping switching signal transmitting circuit and the beam shape switching signal receiving circuit 11 are connected by an interface. The beam shape switching circuit 12 takes the pattern data corresponding to the pattern number out of a beam shape pattern recording memory 14 and controls the individual pixels of light transmission type liquid crystal 13 according to the data. When the beam shape switching signal transmitting circuit and beam shape switching signal receiving circuit 11 are composed of radio communication circuits, the laser pointer and personal computer can communicate with each other by radio.
