PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exert potential control so that the surface potential of a photoreceptor reaches a required target value in a short time without being affected by a variation in the sensitivity of a photoreceptor, also a change in durability, and a change in environment. SOLUTION: An electrification control coefficient α is found by the following expression, α=(Vg2-Vg1)/(Vd2-Vd1) wherein Vg1 is a first grid potential, Vg2 is a second grid potential, Vd1 is the surface potential of a photoreceptor during the application of the first grid potential, and a Vd2 is the surface potential of the photoreceptor during the application of the second grid potential. The α takes account of a variation in the sensitivity of the photoreceptor, a change in durability, and a change in environment. By the use of it, grid potential enabling the attainment of target drum potential is obtained with less repetition of control. |
