PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the adverse influence of a leader tape on respective members of a tape travel system which performs recording and/or reproduction by traveling a tape type recording medium. SOLUTION: A leader tape guide 41 which guides a leader tape along a nearly linear path is provided between a take-up reel 34 for winding a tape and the tape lead-out opening of a one-reel tape cassette loaded in a cassette loading part and while a head is arranged on one side across the above leader tape guide, a lead-out guide 45 in a standby side is arranged on the other side; when the tape reaches the position corresponding to the leader tape guide, the leader tape guide is rotated and retracted from between the head and lead- out guide and the lead-out guide is moved to a loading position to form a tape path which makes the tape face the head.
