A collapsible prosthetic heart valve (100) includes a stent (102) and a valve assembly (104). The stent has a proximal end and a distal end and includes a plurality of struts (114). The struts have free ends (615, 625) configured to inhibit tissue penetration. The valve assembly, including a plurality of leaflets (108), is disposed within the stent.
