An assembly (1) dries sludge (2), or evaporates water to separate polluted residues, using solar radiation. The assembly consists essentially of an enclosed but ventilated drying chamber (3) under a transparent cover (4). The e.g. sludge (2) is turned over from time to time by one or mixer machines (8) powered especially by a photo-voltaic cells. The mixers may operate in several planes, vertical, horizontal or inclined. The drying chamber (3) may be a space within a conventional container (6).
