A foam which is obtained by adding 0.1 to 5 parts by weight of a crosslinking agent to 95.0 to 99.0 parts by weight of a starch-containing substance and treating the mixture with an extruder, and which has a diameter one to five times the die diameter, a bulk specific volume of 1 to 20 ml/g, and an oil absorption of 0.3 to 5 times its own weight and floats on water for 10 minutes or longer.
