APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING AN ELECTROSURGICAL A forceps (10), comprising: a housing (20); at least one shaft (12) extending from the housing (20), the at least one shaft (12) defining a longitudinal axis; an end effector assembly (100) operatively connected to a distal end of the at least one shaft (12) having first and second jaw members (110, 120), at least one of the first and second jaw members (110, 120) pivotable relative to the other from an open position wherein the first and second jaw members (110, 120) are disposed in spaced relation relative to one another, to a clamping position wherein the first and second jaw members (110, 120) cooperate to grasp tissue therebetween under a sealing pressure; a pivot pin (221) providing an axis of pivot for the pivotable jaw member (110, 120); and a monolithic jaw insert operably disposed within at least one of the first and second jaw members (110, 120), the jaw insert defining an opening configured to securely house the pivot pin, the jaw insert including a moveable member configured to engage a cam pin (205) and configured to provide a camming force to the cam pin (205) and a portion of the sealing pressure to the jaw members (110, 120) when the first and second jaw members (110, 120) are in the clamping position. |
