PURPOSE:To obtain a highly sensitive optical fiber disconnection detector and the detecting method at a low cost. CONSTITUTION:Fused-connecting-part reinforcing materials 13 for holding a fused connecting part 12 of optical fibers 11 and a thermal shrinking tube 14, which is a coating material for coating the fused-connecting-part reinforcing materials 13, are provided in a reinforcing structure. In this reinforcing structure, an infrared stimulable phosphor layer 15 containing the infrared stimulable phosphor, wherein europium and samarium are added into calcium sulfide, is applied on one inner flat part of the fused-connecting-part reinforcing materials 13.
