PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt drive system for an internal combustion engine, which prevents unnecessary large tension from being applied to a belt while suppressing a slip of the belt.SOLUTION: A belt drive system comprises: a crank pulley 1 connected to a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine; a start pulley 3 connected to a start-up motor of the internal combustion engine; a driven pulley connected to an auxiliary machine other than the start-up motor; a belt 8 wound around the pulleys; a tensioner 9 for adjusting tension of the belt; and a control device 12 for controlling the tensioner. The control device controls the tensioner so that the tension is increased accompanied with the lapse of a time after a stop of the internal combustion engine during a stop of the engine, and when a traveling speed of a vehicle during the stop of the engine is higher than a prescribed speed, controls the tensioner so that an increasing speed of the tension with respect to the lapsed time is raised, compared to the case that the traveling speed is zero.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5 |
