A sealing element (15) is fitted in tubular, unexpanded form into a receiving part (12) at the circumferential flange (11) of a vehicle body structural member (10). The structural member, including its cavity, is subjected to a series of cathodic lacquer dipping finishes, and into a drying process. In the drying process, the sealing element is expanded thermally. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for forming a cavity into a vehicle body structural member.
