PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To assure ventilation path and improve the adhesion of a substrate, when sealing the substrate by arranging a spacer having softening point higher than that of a sealing material in between substrates, in a sealing and exhausting process of a panel, so that the spacer is made to soften for use as an adhesive, after the impurity gas within the panel has been exhausted, while ventilation path is assured with the spacer. SOLUTION: In the PDP, one substrate having closed partitioning walls for dividing a discharge space for each cell faces the other substrate, and the periphery of the substrate is sealed with a sealing material that softens by heating. A spacer which softens, at a temperature higher than that of the sealing material when sealing the substrate by heating and bonds the top part of a partitioning wall to the other substrate is arranged, between the top part of the partitioning wall formed on one substrate and the other substrate.
